Frank Arnold from Denz sent me exclusive pictures of the new Canon 1D Mark IV with PL-Mount. It will be the first Canon 1D Mark IV with PL-Mount in the world! The Clairmont Canon 1D Mark IV was the first modified 1D with PL-Mount. But if you compare both cameras, the Denz one is better because of the lens stabilisation. In addition to the Canon 1D they will release the Canon 5D Mark II with PL54-Mount. I got the Denz Canon 7D EVO PL a couple weeks ago and shot some BTS on Lucasfilm-Set. The quality of the modified Denz Canon DSLR’s is really solid! You can feel it’s high engineering quality from Germany! Denz won the technical Oscar for special efforts and consequent development in 1996. This weekend I will shoot my first short film with the Denz Canon 7D Evo PL! They sent me two Zeiss Arriflex lenses, one 25 mm 1.2 and one 85 mm 1.4. Here you can watch a short video about the Canon 7D EVO PL: Here are some facts about the PL-Modification of the Canon DSLR-Range: The originally used sensor-block will be replaced by a new custom made sensor-block, so that the camera-body…
I’m not allowed to write about this week in detail, but I can describe these seven days in a few words: It was a really great experience to be intern / assistant of Philip Bloom together with Nino Leitner on set of Lucasfilm’s upcoming feature “RED TAILS”. Subtitle: I’m on Lucasfilm set with pimped Canon 7D Rig. Philip Bloom was DP of the 2nd Unit and used DSLR’s (a modified Canon 7D with PL-Mount) to shoot parts of the “RED TAILS” pick ups. Philip Bloom, me, Nino Leitner and “Star Wars” producer Rick McCallum. On set he shot a few timelapses with Canon 1D MK IV and Nikon D3s. He published the whole short film and many descriptions about gear he used on his weblog. You can find more information about RED TAILS on Philip Bloom’s weblog! Big thanks to Philip Bloom, Nino Leitner and Rick McCallum!
Mr. Arnold from Denz sent me a Canon 7D PL-Mount for some test-shots! Here are my first impressions. Solid quality, really massive and a completely new sensor block. They sent me two Zeiss lenses, one 25 mm 1.2 and one 75 mm 1.4. I will shoot a short film in Prague this week with the Denz Equipment and the Zeiss PL-Mount lenses. Technical Specifications: for all 35mm lenses fitted with PL54-Mount HD-Sensor-mount and PL54-Mount are made of material with a super low coefficient of expansion, which is also used for space- / satellite-technology Sensor-size fits S35 (3perf.) format – 18 Megapixels (effektive) 24,25 and 30 f/s progressive (1920×1080 pixels) 50 and 60 f/s progressive (1280×720 pixels) On-Board Recording as well as 3” display with Live-View various accessories for optimum handling The Canon 7D evo PL54 is a forward-looking development on the DSLR camera market. With the Canon 7D evo PL54, all 35mm lenses fitted with PL54-Mount can be used. In order to realize this, large modifications of the stock canon-camera had to be done. The originally used sensor-block will be replaced by a new custom made sensor-block, so that the camera-body just contains the electronics. The sensor-block, the PL54-Mount and…
Wow, what a great news for DSLR. After “House” there will be another great TV series, which will use two Canon 5D Mark II cameras with Red Rock Micro Rigs on their set! I read on Cinema 5D, that they are using Zeiss ZE lenses for shooting HBO’s “True Blood”. In future we will see more shows, TV series and feature films using DSLR’s. Recently we heard about Lucasfilm’s Red Tails, TV series “House” and now “True Blood”. Amazing! via (Cinema5D)

Now Sony will start his own “Cinema Look” Camera for prosumer this fall! Here is the press-statement: “Sony is developing a new type of AVCHD high definition camcorder which features key technologies powering the newly announced interchangeable lens digital camera, “NEX-5” and “NEX-3″ and plans to sell the new HD camcorder in fall 2010.” “The new camcorder will be equipped with the same “Exmor” APS HD CMOS sensor to be used in “NEX-5” and “NEX-3.” In addition, the camcorder will be compatible with “E-mount” interchangeable lenses developed for “NEX-5” and “NEX-3”, and also the wealth of “A-mount” interchangeable lenses from the existing “α” DSLR camera lineup via a mount adaptor.
