BTS: Paris Fashion Week for Wolfgang Joop

Last week I was in Paris. Director Frank Suffert booked me for a job for Wolfgang Joop at Paris Fashion Week. It was very interesting to see how such a show works. After the job was done I organized an HDSLR Meetup at the Louvre in Paris. Thanks to all for coming! They helped me out at my night shoot in Paris and two of them filmed me working. Thank you so much! You have to watch the videos. By the way: I’m not a smoker, sometimes I smoke a cigarette, but not every day, only one time in a month. 😉 Paris HDSLR Meetup 12 Oct. 2010 from Michel Luczak. Bullet time Matrix effect with 52 Canon 550D’s / T2i’s

Timeslice Films produced a great commercial for the surf company RipCurl. They used 52 Canon 550D’s / T2i’s to create a bullet time effect. Perhaps you remember this effect, which became popular in the movie “Matrix”. It’s amazing. Please also watch the BTS video! Very interesting. The film: Behind the scenes: Press-Release: “In collaboration with Timeslice Films, Rip Curl took on an ambitious bullet-time campaign shoot in Malaysia’s Sunway Lagoon Wavepool with lead surfers Mick Fanning, Stephanie Gilmore, Owen Wright and Matt Wilkinson.

The revolutionary campaign captures surfing in a way never seen before, with the final visuals baring more resemblance to a fight scene from the famous Matrix movies than a promotional surfing video.

The two-day rental of Sunway Lagoon Wavepool allowed Rip Curl and Timeslice to operate in a more stable environment than the open ocean offers. The Rip Curl surfers were repeatedly towed into the machine-controlled waves by Jetski and their operational space was determined by the 52-camera rig set up in the pool.”

My brother’s second film with an HDSLR

My brother Daniel bought a Canon 550D a few months ago. He shot an image-film for his university and a private project about a trip to a lake in southern bavaria. I like it, because it’s one of his first films and he is really talented, only the color correction is a little bit to strong in some moments (especially the skin tones). All shots are handheld without any stabilizer. Check out his Vimeo profile! Used gear: Canon 550D Canon 50mm 1.8 II

Panasonic’s GH2 announced with 3D interchangeable lens

Panasonic announced the new Panasonic Lumix GH2 at Photokina in Cologne. You can mount the first interchangeable 3D lens (12,5 mm) on it. It hast two optical systems installed within the diameter of the lens mount, which creates stereo images (left and right) and processed with a 3D image processing system. I don’t like 3D, but it seems to be a big hype and everybody wants it! The Panasonic Lumix GH2 will ship in black and silver just before christmas. The body costs $ 899.95, the 14-42mm $ 999.95 and the 14-140mm bundle $ 1.499.95. Nikon is in the game now! Welcome Nikon D7000!

I’m a little bit late with this announcement on my blog, but perhaps you haven’t heard about it yet! Nikon unveiled the D7000, which has full manual video control and 1080p. Nikon is now in the HDSLR game. A few weeks ago I thought Nikon is already a competitor for Canon, after they announced the D3000, but this camera has no manual iso control. This is really disappointing. It seems to offer only to shoot 24p in 1080p with the new Nikon D7000. The european market needs 25p, but this is only possible in 720p. Recording in 50p or 60p like Canon 7D, 550D and 60D is not possible. Here are the specs of the Nikon D7000: 16.2 megapixels with new Nikon DX-format CMOS sensor (4,928 x 3,264 pixels) ISO sensitivity range from 100 to 6400 at normal setting; can be raised to ISO 25600 Full HD (1080p) D-Movie H.264/mpeg-4 video compression Makes .mov files at 24fps in 1080 (30fps at 720HD) Movie has built in mono, but stereo sound recording capability with optional external mic via stereo mini jack 20 minute movie recording times High durability magnesium alloy body (dust and water resistant) 6 frames per second still image capture 9,…

Behind the scenes: HDSLR Workshop in Dresden

Last friday I was in Dresden for an HDSLR workshop. The guys from “Knitterfisch” organized the workshop and it was a big pleasure for me to be their host. Many talented guys there and I had a great time in Dresden. I teached them how to work with DSLR cameras in video mode (advantages, disadvantages, picture settings, external sound, multicam recording and much more). I took some photos of this workshop. By the way: You can sign up for my upcoming HDSLR workshops if you are interested. I also can be booked for individual workshops. Just send me an email to workshop (at) wiegaertnerfilms.com.
