How to fix a hot or dead pixel (Canon 7D, 5D, 550D, 600D, 60D…)

Today I noticed a dead pixel while editing a corporate film for a client. I asked on twitter if there is any solution to fix this dead or hot pixel. @GEPD on Twitter sent me a link to a short clip on YouTube, which is a great tutorial for people like me. Today I was the lucky guy and it worked out perfectly. You need some luck, it’s like a lottery, sometimes it works, sometimes not…

If you have any problems with your sensor (dead pixels, hot pixels), follow these instructions, it may help you! Good luck and a huge thank you to @GEPD on Twitter!

There are some mapping plugins available for FCP7! I found a free one a few months ago, perhaps I remember the name of the plugin tomorrow ;-)

It shouldn’t work but it does. I had the exact same problem today with my 7D, followed the instructions… hey, presto, it worked. At first I tried without taking the lens off. I guess with the lens off it triggers a remapping.

Unfortunately ‘manual cleaning’ is not available for 550D. Is there any way around it?

    thanks!

It worked for me on 600D (T3i), but in order to switch to manual cleaning you have to be in M P tv Av mode. I think the same is true for t2i (550D). Make sure you remove the lenses and put the body cap on. Use but not abuse. Excellent trick, Thankx.

It didn’t work at first with my 7D, but when I switched from manual mode to AV mode and let it sit for about 30secs it worked. Thank the maker.

Hey thanks for this, it worked for me on my 600D. I had a bright green pixel on all my shots followed this method and it’s now gone. I just hope that it doesn’t come back and if it does that this will fix it again. Thanks once again.
