Video of a working Red Scarlet Fixed Lens Camera!

By December 15, 2010 News

The last days I asked on twitter if there are any news about the upcoming Red Scarlet and Red Epic-S. Today Tonaci Tran published the first video of a working Red Scarlet with a fixed lens! Can’t imagine that the camera will come out, I thought they have lost the competition against the DSLR’s. I’m more interested in the Red Epic-S with the possibility to change lenses!

In conclusion we have to wait for more info, especially for the Red Epic-S. The most interesting point will be the pricing! I hope the price of the Red Epic-S won’t be above $8,000, more than this price wouldn’t be attractive for the most of the HDSLR shooters.

Think you’re missing the point somewhat. Changeable lenses and shallow DoF aren’t the beginning and end of cinema cameras. Proper codecs, cinegamma blacks, sharp images and lack of moire & aliasing – rather more useful.

That said I’d like all the above in one cheap package. Ain’t gonna happen though. Not for a while.

Of course seb! All these points are condition for our dream camera! I think the Red Scarlet and Red Epic-S are way better than the DSLR’s today! Better codec, raw, higher frame rates, moire, aliasing, improved rolling shutter…But I hope the price point will be okay!! That’s the most important thing for HDSLR shooters!

Can somebody tell me what the RED line-up will be now? Heard about Epic Light, which was Scarlet S-35 or something like that before. Now Epic-S… Does anyone have a list, a ranking of the (alleged) upcoming models? Quite confusing…

Look at the USB 3.0 Point Grey “HD webcams” with 385Mbyte/sec max data. And Kodak got some nice lenses working in the released Swedish “Ikonoskop”. And let see if the DIY camera Ephel 373 is all that. Apertus is looking really exciting, if they upgraded the sensors.
