NAB 2011 was a blast. It was great to meeting all the people who I only know on Facebook and Twitter in real life. The Zacuto / Kessler booth was the main meeting point for all DSLR filmmakers. I had a great time there! Edi Schneider made a video about the people at the Zacuto / Kessler booth. You can watch it at the bottom of this posting. The most important part for me wasn’t the gear, I loved it to meeting all the people there! Thank you Zacuto and Kessler Crane! See you there again in 2012!
First of all: Sorry for no postings on my blog the last few weeks. I’m very busy these days, but I wouldn’t be there where I’m today without this blog. Please send me threat emails if this happens again! I’m getting lots of emails with links to short films, videos and stuff like that. I would really love to share some of these videos with you. The first film I want to share with you is an amazing timelapse film by Terje Sorgjerd. He used a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 24mm/1.4, Canon 16-35mm/2.8, Sigma 12-24mm. Please feel free to send me your videos. Perhaps I’ll show your stuff on my blog next week!

Last week I talked about DSLR video on a german tv channel. It was a live show and one big topic was the HDSLR revolution. I have attached the video of my appearance here, but sadly it’s only in german. In summary I like it more behind the camera, not in front. For sure! 😉
Dan Chung had the chance to get a first impression of the new RED Scarlet camera with a fixed lens at CES 2011 in Las Vegas. Ted Schilowitz showed him some of the features of this new Digital Camera. I thought we will never get a RED Scarlet, since the DSLR video cameras had such a huge success! Now we are able to buy one of these great cameras soon, if we still want to!
This is the trailer of the upcoming documentary “Kloster Irdning”, which will be broadcasted in HD this Thursday at 6.45 pm on Servus TV! It was shot entirely with HDSLR’s (Canon 7D, Canon 5D Mark II). In a small monastery in Styra, Austria, three Capuchin monks teach the ancient prayer of the heart… Director/DP Frank Suffert, with the team, Matt Sweetwood, Christopher Lenke and my person as operator and DP, shot this entire film using Digital SLR cameras. You can find more behind the scenes stuff right here on my blog! Kloster Irdning – das Herzensgebet premieres January 6, 2011 at 18:45 on ServusTV (servustv.com).
I will get the Panasonic AG AF 101/100 camcorder for three days next month. Panasonic will give it to me as loan unit and I hope to shoot some great footage with it. I have some Zeiss CP.2’s for the shoot. Here you can see some footage of the new Panasonic AG AF 101/100: My question to you: Which situations do you want to see in my short film? Low light, moving objects, sport…So many situations, but don’t know if I can film all that stuff in three days! Please help me and vote which things you want to see! If you want something which isn’t listed on the poll you can write a comment! Thanks! 😉 [poll id=”3″]
Jason Wingrove shot some amazing footage with the new Sony PMW-F3 camera. The pictures out of it are stunning. I don’t know how much it will cost. Update: Sony PMW-F3 costs € 17.255,00 in Europe! Thanks to Jan Odenthal for the info! Too much in my opinion. You could buy a naked Red One for this price! Here are a few facts about the video: This is a teaser for a short shot entirely with the Sony PMW-F3. It will form part of Sea Pool. vimeo.com/channels/seapool A documentary currently in production on the Australian ocean pool culture in Sydney and shot early morning at North Narrabeen on Sydney’s northern beaches. Lenses were Zeiss 40mm UltraPrime, Super Speeds, & 135mm prime. I’ve done a subtle preliminary grade using Red Giant’s Magic Bullet Looks but we can already see the footage has great possibilities in the grade.
